Hi guys,

I know there is plenty of ways to record. When I listen to this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=1L8XIZph1Lw#!

Its very clear.. I do have a emu0404 usb interface

So basically for the guitar parts, do I just mic up the amp with a condenser mic?

For the backing track do i plug it into the amp record it together with my guitar?
Or do I dump it into the software and listen to it through the headphone?

Any other suggestion?

thanks

according to what I think I hear/see, the backing track drums is programmed/looped. including the clean guitars it's sort of mixed except for the solo guitars which he's playing which sounds "out of the mix" and sounds like simulated distortion guitars like line6/guitar rig or pedal DI to me.

as you can see his monitor, it's a backing track playing in a DAW, then he just sets it to playback, possibly in the following setup. (either that or the recording guitar track is scrolled away.)

guitar > DI/pedal etc > audio interface input > DAW + backing track > audio interface output > a video camera/dslr input of some sort which supports 1080 quality then back into a video editing software cos the colour of the video seems to be adjusted + there's focus soft blurring effect at the edges.

to answer your question - condenser mic is optional, any mic also can. DI amp/cab simulation also can.

and no, just dump it into software and listen to it through headphone. because once it goes through your amp it'll become dirty sounding. since you already have an audio interface, just download a decent free VST amp sim from www.kvraudio.com it should work.

do let us know what DAW are you using.

Sounds like a very clean tube sound, quite a bit of compression, tons of good reverb and a tinge of delay. You can try going into a tube pre before hitting the soundcard then using an amp sim for the rest of the sound.

Like blueprint said, you monitor the backing track only through your headphone.
