nobody asked me to do this, but im so bored and too lazy to plug in my guitar to practice:
The CAGED system is basically a system where chords, scales modes and blar blar blar are all connected in the sequence C-A-G-E-D-C-A-G-E-D....etc
simply put, you can hold any major chord using the 5 different ways of holding the open chords, by moving them around the neck as barre chords
e|-0--
B|-1-*
G|-0-
D|-2-
A|-3-*
E|---
thats ur normal open string C major chord
e|-0-
B|-2-
G|-2-*
D|-2-
A|-0-*
E|---
thats ur normal open string A major chord
e|-3-*
B|-0- (i noe sum ppl lyk mi lyk to hold this at 3rd fret, but for this caged
G|-0-* system method, we'll juz hold it lyk dis)
D|-0-
A|-2-
E|-3-*
thats your normal open string G major chord
e|-0-*
B|-0-
G|-1-
D|-2-*
A|-2-
E|-0-*
thats your normal open string E major chord
e|-2-
B|-3-*
G|-2-
D|-0-*
A|---
E|---
thats your normal open string D major chord
now note, the * is the root note(or if you dun understand, e.g. its the C note in the C major chord)
lets say your playing
the D-shape D chord
e|-2-
B|-3-
G|-2-
D|-0-
A|---
E|---
if your slide it up 2 frets
e|-4-
B|-5-
G|-4-
D|-2-
A|---
E|---
it becomes a D-shape E chord(if u wanna play songs and reading chords or tabs, den disregard the "D-shape" thingy, its sumthing i made up)
so i hope u get the jist of it and this helps
so at the end of this first lesson, you should be able to:
1) understand wad this whole complete mess of numbers and letters mean
2) be able to play any major chord anywhere on the guitar neck
any queries u can ask me on msn @ jeremyrozario@hotmail.com
