How to make my own backing track?

Great question
Depends on
1. what style of music do you want to make?
2. what other equipment / instruments do you have?
3. what instrument do you usually play, at what skill level?

While thinking about that, try
1. Acid Express (free download for Windows at http://www.acidplanet.com/)
2. Garageband (free if you have a Mac with iLife)

I use the programme Acoustica Beatcraft to do up the drumbeats, and Acoustica Mixcraft to record guitars + mix everything. Quite simple, you can download the trial version online.

I want to make backing tracks for rock music,i play the guitar and i have a zoom,i try to record stuff with cubase, but the delay is horrible and the program gets an error after recording for abit.I only have and play a electric guitar.

I have no idea how to make backing tracks like drum beats and bass and stuff.

well.. like i said, you can try beatcraft by acoustica, to me its pretty simple to use and the drum beats sound realistic enough, not those midi sounding type. If your zoom has a octave generator you can record bass using your guitar. and lastly, you just need to record your guitar.

but to record you need a mixing programme. there are some free like garageband, if you have a imac/macbook. there are other programmes like mixcraft by acoustica (i'm using this) and adobe audition.

you can record straight into your mic-in on your computer, but the sound quality will be quite bad. another alternative is to use a firewire/usb-in recording port like the line 6 toneport series. just google it and you can find out more.

hope this helps.
