How to keep my guitar?

Hi all. I would like to ask a question about keeping my guitar. I am currently using a Fender Strat and I practice everyday, sometimes even twice a day about one hour each session, one in the morning one at night. So my question is, is it okay if I leave it on a stand with the cable plugged in?

Currently I plug out the cable and store it inside my Madarozza gigbag and then place it on the stand, but I find this quite a hassle and I am afraid this might loosen the cable jack if i keep plugging and unplugging the cable. The current cable jack is very tight and struggle to unplug sometimes. But this gives me a firm and stable feeling so I guess it is supposed to be that tight for performance purposes.

But if I want to keep the cable plugged in, I have to keep it on the stand without the gigbag and exposed. The gigbag will only be used for transportation and there is less hassle beginning practice. This may give more motivation to start practicing as I can just set up the amp and pick up the guitar straight and play. But will this affect the guitar adversely?

Which way should be the correct way? Or are there better methods?

Thanks a lot!

Hello. I also find it a hassle to keep wrapping up my guitar like an undertaker, but I find it keeps my strings in better condition (less moisture exposure) and it keeps dust out of the little nooks and crannies. You should spend that extra few seconds to take care of your weapon of mass destruction (especially since it's a fender strat). Haha.
Yeap. That's how I feel. I also use string polish.

Why not get a hardcase? Then you can just thrown your guitar in and close the top like a coffin. :P

for my guitar, i have an gigbag which actually is rather stiff, as in it can stand by itself, so putting in and taking out guitar isnt much of a hassle. i dont zip the gigbag anyway. true that keeping in a hardcase everytime actually discourages me to play guitar. as a person who shares his room, i need to take advantages of the short time my roommate spend outside the room.

perhaps for you, can just take a small blanket to cover the guitar on the stand, so no need the hassle on put it take out.

Thats very true. Its good in a guitar practicing sense to leave your guitar out so you can just grab it. I never really keep my guitars. Yes many people will kill me for that, but a guitar is a tool not my girlfriend, if so then i'm a big promiscuous doushbag.

I don't even have a guitar stand. I lean them on my amp, or on the bed, or lay it ON the bed. Strings rust quicker, but the 14 to 50 bucks a month on strings is a good price to pay, especially in a practicing point of view.

Don't do that if you have a valuable or fragile guitar of course like a jazz box or acoustic, or a precious James Tyler etc. I have a Tele and Epi Les Paul which are abusable, and sometimes thats part of the fun. The Valley Arts has a hardcase for a home, but sometimes I do get lazy =p

You can leave your plug in, but then your softcase protection thing will be soooo mah fun lah. Life are a bunch of compromise.

Or you could get a Guitar Sock. http://www.necksock.com/home

Don't worry about your plug being loose over time. Its fixable and even then, you probably just need to tighten the screws now and then, thats it. Fender's are meant to be broken. Then put back together again. Unless its a Custom Shop. Then do keep in mind the resale value.

I make it a point to keep my guitars in their cases when I'm not playing them for a long period of time. If I'm not playing for awhile but will be playing after that, I'd just leave them on the stand for convenience. I also wipe down my strings after each session with a dry cloth before putting them in their cases. Well, that's how I keep my guitars. My strings last very long that way!

Can't help the inconvenience. I absolutely loathe re-stringing my guitars because I suck at it... So I'd try to make my strings last as long as possible. A bit of hassle but what to do...

id bet its a fr/edge bridge equipped guitar

i always leave mine on the stand since i play it everyday

Actually, it's a hardtail bridge. Re-stringing for me isn't difficult, but I find it very troublesome. Especially on acoustic guitars with bridge pins. My low-end Ibanez had a tremolo but I hardtailed it for this reason amongst others. :)

Let me guess. I have a Gio and the tuning used to go off way too often.

Well, it wasn't too bad, but still hardtailing it made it a great improvement especially since I don't use the tremolo. It stays in tune perfectly now, even when I drop tune. :)

Up to the player... If you don't mind restringing often, then leaving it on the stand is a good idea since it cuts a lot of inconvenience. But if you want to prolong the string life as much as possible, have to go through inconvenience. For me I'd rather go through the inconvenience because I'm kinda used to it now. I'm also worried (in the case of acoustics) that insects will fly in. Had a dead moth in my very first guitar once.

But if you wouldn't be playing for a short period of time, unplugging and placing your guitar back in the case is pointless, a lot of inconvenience, and a lot of wasted time. So for me it depends on the amount of time in-between playing sessions.

I usually put in on my guitar stand. When I want to play it, i just take off the stand. Plug & play!. I don't mind the repetition, I enjoy what I'm doing. :)
