how to do this effect?

that guitar lesson world website is strange. artificial harmonics ARE pinch harmonics, but what they described are natural harmonics. aren't natural and artificial like.. opposites? o_O

i dont get the website at all. it says both technique one and two are under fretted harmonics. but i dont recall having to dontknowwhat12thfret thing when doing pinch harmonic.

haha i thought pinch harmonic is artificial harmonic too. and when i learnt at justinguitar vid lesson, he said he's doing CLASSICAL harmonic when he does the 12th fret above thingy as described by the website above as AFTIFICIAL harmonic.

mus: i thought natural harmonic is already described under open string harmonics?

I'm confused!

I think I got it wrong. What I know is,

For a Natural Harmonic, is when you soft touch the strings above the 5th, 7th or 12 frets to get a bell-like sound.

For an Artificial Harmonic, you fret either 5th, 7th or 12 then pick the string with the the pick and the thumb to get a squeal sound.

Did I get it right? Or am I wrong?.

The frets a mentioned are just for simplicity sake. Other frets may apply.

Artifical harmonics is also known as pinch harmonics/ squealies. This can be done by your pick and your thumb. The pick has to strike the string first, then use the side of your thumb to gently touch the string. Zakk Wylde is known to use this technique widely.

Ryanz: It's okay bro. We make mistakes. I made a mistake about the natural/artificial harmonics. :)

Am I right with the definitions?.

Threadstarter: How's it going with the harmonics?. :D

haha yeah u are right as far as i think i am right. which i maybe wrong, so u maybe wrong. whatthefug am i talking?

yesyes natural harmonic is the lightly touch string at the usually used 5,7,9,12 fret. pick and release string should nearly simultaneous ie pick, release string right after.

classical(as mentioned from justinguitar) harmonic is the fret at ur chosen spot, lightly touch string like in natural harmonic 12 frets higher and pick.

artificial(pinch, squeal) is the normal fretting (easiest at 12th fret) with picking and lightly touch with thumb of picking hand.

for easy demonstrations, there's always youtube. heheh
