How do one change his/her singing voice from a more choir sounding to more pop sounding?

Is there any techniques in pop singing? what are there?

Have you got a recording of yourself singing? It's much easier to give advice if we know what you sound like now.

just use your mp3 player and record. seriously. make an effort. we don't mind helping if you help yourself.

Your voice sounds more pop than choir to me. Have you got an example of what you want your voice to sound like (eg a particular singer)? Is it more power that you want?

Can't hear the vocals that much cuz i'm here in office. Check it out again later at home. But it does sound pop already. Maybe cuz of the song. Anyway. Will play it again later at home.

Thanks for sharing.

I don't usually do this, but I thought since you actually bothered to do the video, I'd give you my two cents worth.

It seems okay from the outset, but I get what you mean once you hit the chorus. I don't think it's your voice or technique that's in question too much here though. Cant really tell over the blaring piano anyways, plus you're seated on the floor which would make it very different than if you were standing up.

I do feel like you need to get your head out of choir phrasing land though. When I listened to your chorus, it seemed to me like "I'm not gonna write you a love song" is just too evenly spaced out. Gosh it's hard to do this over the web.

Get in touch with your emotions for the song and naturalize your phrasing. Yeah.. not so robotic can liao.

Good job though.

I don't know much about singing. But if you are refering to differences in choir and pop singing, based on what I heard. You need more of a clear "cut"/pause between some lines. Love Song has a lot of short pauses cuz the piano is played in eighths. So maybe it lies in overuse of cresendo?

Just my thoughts. I am not a singer.
Btw you have a good voice. (:

After listening to your demo, I think u need to learn to resonate the chest voice, and develop your range towards the alto range to become a more well-rounded singer. that would be suitable for the kind of song u sang in the demo.

if it's in your interest, the choir style of breaking into head voice works for chinese pop ballads.

u should seek vocal training if you want to improve. voice techniques are voice techniques, they are applicable across the board whether choir or pop, it's just which set are used more between different styles of music.

Thx! :) nope, not really like any artist. I want to sound like me. haha.

actually when i first post this thread, i really wanted to find out what are the techniques of pop singing. but i guess i may have phrase it wrongly.. haha =p

reply to babyjosef17:

Sure. I'm glad i did too. Am still quite new to this forum. haha.

reply to Timmy:

Thanks so much for your helpful comments! It's true! I should have done it standing up. haha. I get what you mean about the choir phrasing. True true, I should have add in syncopation to that part. haha. I will learn to connect emotionally with the song too. I still trying hard to understand what the songwriter mean when she wrote this song. =)

reply to IcebladeX-04:

Oooo.... you mean that i should not drag the last word of the lines too long? Ic... :)
Thanks for your complements! It's a comfort to hear it. haha!

reply to iansoh:

Wow! Thanks for giving specific comments which really helps me! :)

I'm really sorry.. I didn't take singing class so i didn't get what you mean when you use some singing terms. Like.... How do I resonate my chest voice? and what does choir style of breaking into head voice means?

But I do get what you mean when you say i should develop my alto range. Is it that my alto range is weaker and i need to practice my lower notes singing?

TRUE! I also really really really want to learn about singing and all.. It's so interesting when you tell me all these stuff... But i don't have the $$$ (means) to... T_T haha.

THANKS So much for all these comments! It really really helped me to understand my singing more! ^^

whoa

whoa, didn't know singing also can tune/change one. haha.
I thought people were just born good singers.

haha. I'm not a good one too. haha.

But, this is just how i feel you can improve based on my hearing.. may not be true, cos i'm also not trained in singing.

Firstly, your singing is airy, that means you are not using your diaphragm (it's at the top of your stomach- you use it when you laugh). haha.

secondly, for Your Guardian Angel Cover, you went out of the key when you hit chorus. listen.

Thirdly, i seriously think your guitar skills are better. haha!

Fourthly, dont give up! I also want to be a singer too! it's my dream!

Jia you! ^^

O.O... i thought choir is like more strict on each bar and each beat??.. from what know choir sings like some sort of a robot.. I mean the way they follow each notation each bar each rest... they make is precise and exactly what the piece wants.. however for pop is more relax in terms of following the score... thats why when you sing pop u have the urge to drag some notes...xD I dunno how all of you but i have the urge to do it to some of the songs that i sing.. hehe... Pop is more flexible ba...

Just watched your vid. It's nice but I really cannot hear you sing that well. The piano is too loud lol. hehe. still having some tingling sounds in my ear hehe. Try to record another song, this time louder vocals. We would really like to hear you sing, as it seems to be very nice.

Thanks!
