How often to performers replace strings?

certain big bands have their own guitar tech to re-string and tune for them, so they hv no worries...

do they re-string all their guitars after every single show??
No.....

bands like metallica itself have thousands over guitar... and normally on tour they will bring more than enough guitar to sustain them thru 4-5 shows... without re-stringing any of them.... but again different big bands hv different way of doing things... there is no hard and fast rule for this.....

as for local bands... not sure... it's up to them to decide how often they wan to change their strings....

i change mine every once a mth....... for i learn from strings are the peak performance of each set of strings does not last more than a week.... the good performance of each set of strings does not last more than a mth..... and finally the life of the strings does not last more than 2mths (before rust steps in)

This is only from my own personal experience but I would NEVER play a show without fresh strings. I see guys spraying WD40 on them here to stop corrosion ( I guess) but c'mon if you are playing to an audience for $$, then you should be able to fork out the $6 for fresh strings no?

In the studio? again, fresh strings befor every session.

In the bedroom or jamming I would leave them on until my fingers (or the guitar fretboard) cant take it anymore.

Strings in this climate have a very short life expectancy anyway. Lucky they are cheap!

I am sure that they change strings constantly. I change my strings on my main guitar 1-2 times per week because I am picky and I practice a lot.

well when im not gigging ill just use string cleaner to get rid of all that oxidation and rust on my string. but its a must for me to gig wif fresh strings. firstly it lessens the chance of string breakage and secondly fresh strings have that very alive sound.
