How do you set up a guitar? Action etc..

As above. Will any good people please enlighten.

to many of us, set-up means to tweak the guitar so that it plays well (for you)...



anyway, for me, it´s about the action & inherent tone. as for action, namely it´s about the strings & neck.



strings & action:

*make sure your gauge fits the guitar well

*file the nut if it´s too small for your gauge

*action depends on individual pref. i prefer low, slightly buzzing action- as long as you like it, regardless of what others say, really...

*neck: make sure it´s not too warped or it´ll affect the action & causes buzzing

*after you attend to all of the above, make sure the intonation is correct. this involves tweaking the bridge string saddles so that the notes at the 12th fret are true (ie. harmonics not sharper/ flatter than the fretted note)



inherent tone:

*nothing much here except for your pickup height. this affects tone & output so mess with the height.
