how do i "slide"

i know wad sliding's supposed to sound like, but i can't seem to get the right sound. for example,

when i move from the 8 to the 3, do i rub my fingers on the string towards the 3?

when u slide, apply more force so u dont lose the sustain, then bring it quickly to the other fret

but when i apply force, i get a legato kinda sound when the string hits the frets on the way to the 3.

sorta like,

except legato all the way. and if i apply less force, i get this "fwah" sound which throws me off time.

not that much force. apply too little, sustain not there. too muc, you'll get stuck at t he frets,making your slide unsmooth.

I kinda do a short vibrato at the end of slides to make the slide sound more prominent ...

yup u gotta apply enough force and move it quickly so u dont get that sound that's lost that makes it go "chink chink" because of the string, and not too much that u make other notes sound clear. but the thing is to slide fast.

detroit's way of doing a short vibrato also helps make it sound nicer too. try it :wink:

What I would do is to play the 8, then slide it to 3. The first 3 you don't play anything, only for the subsequent ones. Use 2 fingers if you don't find stability in sliding upwards yet.

yea, you gotta increase your action. or else, be prepared to take alot of time practicing control when putting pressure on your slide...

how to slide frm 0 to 5? i donno where my fretting hand goes after hitting the open E string, or do i juz let it ring and then hit the 5?

Play the 0 then go from then slide from the white thing on the bridge to 5?

Hmm.

just hit the open E string and press down quickly behind the first fret before quickly siding up (with ur finger still on the string of course) to the 5th fret.
