How do drummers compose songs?

just very very curious, or do drumemrs just play whatever their vocalist, and guitarist come out with?

Just curious XD

play a little bit of guitar? even a few chords and a good melody in mind can be a good starting point for your vocalists n guitarists to develop a song on. many ways to contribute in a studio when you're jamming i guess, you can always suggest variations in the song structure/melody etc. you can also control the tempo of the song thru your drumbeat.. or how it builds up, goes quiet, lead into a solo, etc... i say that every musician is an artist who's capable of contributing in music composition

if you want to write a complete song i think you'll have to be a multi instrumentalist or use midi or somehting.

david garibaldi of tower of power use to sing the horn lines to them.
if u notice TOP's early songs are built ard the drummer and bassit. thts why garibaldi cld get away with such busy ass playing

Well one way that i'm doing is, the band discusses how the general structure of the song is going to be like, then we discuss on how each section/part should feel generally.

After which, the rhythmic guitar part is to be done, den the lead comes in, which follows by my drums, but sometimes its vice versa btw the lead and drums. Then bass the last. For me, i use Guitar Pro to record all my thoughts. Also, listening to alot of songs helps. All genres. For eg, the pre chorus you think its not good enough, you want to change, but you don't know how, so you listen to alot of songs and get inspirations etc from others and then make your own out of those.

When the whole song is done, what i'd do is to re look at the details, like the "turning points", eg from pre chorus to chorus, or from chorus to verse. Cause drums are very important to bring the whole song over to the next page so to speak.

The satisfaction when you finish the song is breath taking, but realising that you did all that by yourself is unbelievable.

Well, only my humble personal view/experience on how to do. Never knew if its correct or not? haha

Having a little knowledge of another instrument (keyboard/guitar etc) or some melody sense helps. I usually discuss the song structure and arrangements with my band when we write songs. Drummers can contribute too! :D

lock urself in a mansion for one year and don't listen to ANY SONGS!

going out to pee and get food is the only thing ur able to do... so u filter out all the nonsense outside and create ur OWN ORIGINAL SONGS!

now that's song composing...

based on my experience, i compose song through beats. this enables me to make songs wif different speed. it will be much easier to compose Rock. Agree???
