Hi all..... i want to do some proper home recording with some mixer and i want the sound to be good almost like cd quality... budget ard $2000 guys any recommendation?

Are you recording into a PC, or using those studio-in-a box thingy? If PC, go for a good pre-amp that converts analog signals into digital signal and enter the PC thru USB or Firewire. That will give you good signals to work on.

ShredCow, how many tracks do you need to record simultaneously?

for example, if you need to record 'live' drum, you need at least 8 tracks. Bass drum, Hi-hat, Snare, Tom1, Tom2, Tom3, Overhear Left, Overhead Right. http://www.presonus.com/firepod.html
