Hole (fender strat)

My fender strat has a small opening(delibrate) near the electronics at the back. Is this normal?

errmm i no digi cam no scanner so cannot post pics sorry  but you know at the back of the fender there's like a rectangle piece of umm covering with 4 screws , there's a small rectangle opening in that covering.

Are you referring to the rectangular piece of plastic that covers the springs? If that is so, then that piece does have some form of holes. The opening could be one long and narrow rectangular opening or a series of holes.

ok , i checked my bro's ibanez RG something, there's no holes on the back of the guitar. What are the holes used for anyway?

probably de fender is diff is cos of de bridge. de rg uses a floyd rose while de fender uses a vintage tremolo. as the strings r loaded onto de vintage tremolo thru de back thus there is a hole in de plastic. in de rg's case de ball ends of de strings r cut off n clamped by de allen key locked saddles of de floyd rose thus there is no hole on de back of de rg.

Why not u guys post a pic of your fender guitar's back?

Thanks! :D

Next time when you visit a guitar shop, look at the back of all the strats and strat copies. Some will have similar design tremelo covers while some are different. Whether there are holes or no holes doesn't really matter, except maybe to keep that part clean and protect it from unnecessary intrusions.

Some artist like SRV even remove them and expose the tremelo.

i would have guessed it's the vibrato-spring access cavity cover, but that one is secured to the body by >4 screws... so can it be the neck-body bolt plate?
