Hi all Im new to electric guitars. A few months ago i bought a LTD MH-50 guitar that comes along with a Randall KH-15 amp. I currently learning some simple metallica songs and rock (GnR). I noticed theres alot of buzzing in the amp (i have not much of a problem with it though i dun like to play too loud) but my friends said the amp is really bad n i should change to a new amp.

I need advice from seniors here. If i have to change which amp should i get? Thanks alot! :)

ive just gotta say this but if ur friends were the one who told u that the amp is really bad and that u have to change it, didnt they at least give u some idea of what to change it for?
and btw, pple here kinda hate it when u dont give budget or context for amp.

Sorry dude .... My budget is SGD $500. Im looking for a beginner amp that can produce rock and metal effects.

If I were you, troubleshoot the amp before wanting to change the amp.

1. What sort of power plug does the amp come with? A two-pin or a three-pin? If it's a two-pin, swap it out for a three-pin one to ground the amp. *Please do this step first*

2. If it already is a three pin or changing to three pin does not help at all, does the hum manifest itself even without a guitar plugged into the amp?

Thanks for the tips! I will change it to a 3 pin plug. BTW the hum manifest even without the guitar plugged in. Its like a "angry mosquito in a jar". lol.

There you go... I believe this is the root. Change it & all will go well...

Thanks! Will change it asap when im back sg. BTW is there any shop that offer this type of service with reasonable price?

Also, can anyone recommend which brand of guitar strings to get? Ive been using the stock strings, heard ernie ball is good but there are so many type with diff "slink". Which is good for beginners? Thanks! :)

Hello, you can do it yourself la. Its not difficult to change the plug. I know nuts about electronics & I can change...

Strings are subjective. Its personal preference. Do you like thick or thin strings?

When in doubt, go for the "Regular Slinky". I also use the "Super Slinky" but honestly don't feel or hear any difference. Feel-wise, Ernie Balls are easy on the fingers, so they shouldn't be much of a problem for beginners.
