dHenson Beng is my drum teacher, he has been playing drums for 46 years, ever since he was 12. After his PSLE's, he bought his first drum kit. It consisted of a snare, one tom, a bass drum, and a cymbal connected to the bass drum (not even a hi-hat). With his remaining money, he bought a record player and started playing by ear.
Being a highly talented, versatile, and experienced drummer, he was one of the famed and renowned drumming legends back in his era. In his early years, he has played with probably over 50 renowned bands, and over 20 different locations, such as the famed Saxophone Bar. He used to play in his band at the Mandarin Hotel for a few years.
Henson can play almost every genre one can think of, and every era of music as well. Examples such as reggae, jazz, rock, waltz, metal, heavy metal, funk, samba, shuffle, bebop, and many more, and eras such as the 'gogo' era, the 'swing' era, and the 'shuffle' era.
Currently teaching in Yamaha at Plaza Singapura, as he has been for over 30 years, he remains passionate about drumming, and sees drumming not as a method, but as a concept. He remains a true virtuoso at drumming at the age of 58, and continues to teach and play with passion.
So, anyone know him?
