Help with scores

I am learning how to read scores and play it on the guitar. As I have music knowledge, reading it is easy. However, I have some problems with which frets to press as the guitar has at least 2 different ways of playing the same note and this affects my fingerings. Is there any way in which I can learn which frets to press if I want to scale read?

Hmm, that is one way, but what if I want to scale read? Like see the notes and straight away play.
As what mentioned by Likui tryout which fingerings suits you best. It's all a matter of practice. Once you get the hang of it, you'll know which goes best for which scales. No one can tell you that your fingering is wrong when you hit the right notes. It's all about preference and comfortability. One guitar teacher may tell you this or that would be the best choice of fingering. But it all goes back to you as a player. You decide what you wanna do when you're playing.

If you can side read well, all you have to do is apply it properly on the guitar. I'm sure with great deal of practice you'll be able to know which is best. Try using all your four fingers. But remember, there are good guitarists who only uses 3 fingers not that he's lost a finger or what. Hehehehe!!

Enjoy!!

Alright you try this practice sight reading everyday. Everyday try a new piece take classical music I recommend bach any piano songs just try the right hand or violin pieces. After many many tries at it like maybe after 20-30 pieces u've tried sight reading it will come naturally where to press. But for the 1st few pieces you just have to figure out which works best for you. It's all about getting used to it. Well I'm speaking from experience because I grew up learning guitar by playing classical music reading notes.

Note reading on guitar

Hi there,

i have some suggestions:

do practice some scales up and down the neck, not just patterns but vertically and horizontally(up and down one string). you could do that with just the major scales. it would be good to be reading the notes as you playing the scales just to get used to the connection between notes and fingerings.
then after that try to play scales in different places not just what you are comfortable with.

after that start learning some simple melodies like Christmas songs or nursery rhymes because you know these tunes best so you would know if you have played it right or not and again do have a reference or read off some scores.

if you do need a book, hal leonard has some good books for reading on the guitar.

or alternatively you could get a classical guitar book and start learning how to read notes from there, you dont have to learn classical guitar but at least its a tried and tested method to reading notes.

lastly, where to play certain notes esp for the guitar really is about personal preference sometimes or convenience like for example a 'closed' note sound versus an 'open' note sound.

let me know if this helps
