HELP! Strong static and buzz from mic

Hi All,

I'm currently using an entry level Audio Technica ATR 6550 Condenser to do some basic recording. I know it's not the best, but I'm just using for archiving, not high quality stuff.

However, the mic has been giving me a strong static buzz. When I'm standing on the ground bare feet, and hold the mic, the interference is reduced, but still audible.

Anyone here know ways that I can solve this? Is there a way to ground the mics?

Any advise will do. I'm trying to avoid buying another mic. Much appreciated!

Well, is the recording equipment properly grounded? But I guess you are on portable equipment, so it is harder to do grounding.

I'm on a portable setup. Using Sony DSLR or Kodak K8i. I realised this problem is common, but not every user gets affected.

if your buzz problem is the same as this, try to steer the cable away from anything electronic or don't parellel-ize an audio cable next to an electrical one.

while your microphone is plugged in, monitor a little louder on your earphones , while holding on your Kodak K8i/Sony DSLR's metallic parts, touch every part of the microphone (ok sounds wrong but what I meant is anything metal.) cos that can contribute investigating in your grounding issue hopefully. listen out for instances of the buzzing stopped etc.

ensure your microphone cable has good connectivity/fresh batteries etc.
