Help: Overdrive pedal/box

Hey! I'm looking for a beginner's overdrive effect pedal/box, any recommendations?

Digitech Bad Monkey. Cheap, good, US-made and really solid casing. It's still quite pricey if you buy from Swee Lee, but they get really affordable when secondhand. I'm not a beginner but I love my Bad Monkey to bits.

is there such a thing as a 'beginner' pedal (implying the rest of the selections in the market are for advanced players)? i think you are being too humble, my friend. even if you are a novice player, if you can afford any pedal, please do not hesitate to do so & not limit your acquisition just because you deem yourself to be of a certain standard
