OMG! You're just like me! I bought my guitar yesterday!
Guitar shops/guitar areas that are more well-known:
#Peninsular Excelsior Hotel Basement. (alight at City Hall MRT)
has Davis, guitar 77, SV, guitar connection to name some
#Peace Centre (never been there myself lol)
#Bras Brasah Complex (take MRT to city hall or bugis. in between CHIJMES and National Library..somewhere there)
has Ranking, Blackwood, Swee Lee (you just missed out on their big sale! >.<)
#Yamaha (go to the nearest one near you <
What you do at the shop:
Tell the staff (nicely!) about what you're looking for. Most shops allow you to try the guitar before you buy it. Give them info u think they may need.
If necessary provide info like:
-the kind of music you like/want to play eg. pop, rock, metal, classical, any specific bands/guitarists you like
- your budget
When testing the guitar, what I did was to play every fret to check if every single fret plays. Cos when I posted my "need help buying guitar" thread long ago, a guy told me certain guitars have one "dead" note somewhere so check before buying.
(in case you don't know, one fret is one line on the neck. so just put one left-hand finger (not the thumb) onto one line on one string and use your right hand to pick that string)
Most importantly, make sure you feel like playing the guitar. You must feel comfortable hold it. You don't have to bother about all the technical stuff yet. You like it, you buy it.
AND
Always take the words of the soft people with a pinch of salt. Including mine.
Btw "don't know what gear to buy" here's what you can get for now:
1 guitar, 1 amp, 1 cable, 1 guitar case.
pedals are for additional effects so you might wana opt out of pedals for now.
I hope a newbie like me helped another newbie out somehow.
edit: sorry for WoT lol
