Hey guys
I used to use the Creative Audigy 2 Platinum eX for my recording. I recently got a new computer, and in it is a AMD Athlon 3200+ 64...Now the sound card is not compatible with a 64-bit processor! Could your recording buffs giving me a hand in suggesting something similar to the Audigy cards - for a decent price and good recording? I would really like something with an external box, and obivously something that will give me better sound for lieke games etc like the audigy did. Thanks alot!

The new Echo firewire line is going to support 64-bit. M-audio's Audiophile 2496 and Delta line has beta drivers to support 64-bit. The new Audiophile 192 definitely supports 64-bit.

I have my eye on the Audiophile 192...does anyone have any experience with the company's other products? Are the goot to record with? Also, will this make my general sound better?

i've used their products before. not entirely convinced with the driver support really. i had several problems with m-audio stuff and some of my friends are moving away from it too. Echo products on the other hand, literally plug and play for me. no probs. m-audio driver installation was a hassle. and even after that, latency and dropouts were frequent. dunno, some folks may have had better luck i suppose. or maybe their newer range is better. all the best i say!
as for sounding better, i dunno. depends on the ad/da converters in the card. i know emu has some top of the line converters, and echo as well. not sure abt m-audio. but it ain't bad lah, just mayeb for the same amount u could get somethin better..?
cheers.

Just some other sources in case you wanna do some research.

For Echo products, i have used the Echo Gina24 and the Echo Mia Midi. No complaints. plugged and play.
For about the same price, there's Marian Marc cards. but never used before altho reviews are quite good.
Emu cards uses the same AD/DA converters as digidesigns protools stuff but i think only those with the suffix 'M' use it so juz to let ya noe.
For M-Audio, can consider the Audiophile 2496, but for the same price i'd rather get the Echo Mia Midi. you get 1/4inch ins and outs on the mia midi rather than RCA connectors as on the Audiophile.
The Gina24 comes with a breakout box and a gigantic cable that connects to the comp. looks kinda cool really. heh. the M-Audio Delta series has gotten pretty good reviews and roughly same price as the Gina24.
Having used both, i'd recommend Echo products. But al said and done, i also have friends who are happy with their M-Audio products. so, its up to ya really. have fun!
cheers

I agree with the stability of Echo products. However, do know that they don't support 64-bit yet. You'll have to wait for the firewire line to be out. I'm sure when that's out, beta drivers for the other Echo products will then be available. Until then, you'll have to wait.

i kinda agree with the m-audio problems. im using mobilePre USB and i'll say its quite troublesome. somemore, its not approved by windows, but i use it anyway. i got no trouble with latency but somehow, my m-audio device just doesn't feel right.

dammit im just about to order the 192...i have ehard 50 50 on m-audio...the thing is its abscailly designed for 64-bit computers so the performance would be even better...

heh. fact is, every product will have its problems. its the inherent nature of pc anyways. but maybe i'm just saying that i've read less problems with echo products than with m-audio products. ah vell, not familiar with 64 bit either, maybe the 192 will be a-ok with the 64 bit stuff. all ze best!

i just got a new computer, pentium 4 3.0Ghz and my old guillemot isis card doesnt work with XP,so i'm in the market for a new recording soundcard. im looking at the echo layla24 or layla3G or perhaps even a firewire based setup, but whats this about echo products not supporting 64bit? i'm sorry im an idiot with computers,is my pentium a 64bit processor and will i have problems getting the echo stuff to work with it?
