Harmonica

Oh yeah. Would love to find out that too. BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG plays the harmonica too. Haha. I think it's a cool instrument but I don't really see much people here playing the harmonica. =\
 
cause i bought one hohner.... but heck... i know nuts about how to use..... hahaha.... so i'm willing to learn... if there's anyone willing to teach! haha
 
i play a bit of harmonica...on my accoustic version of "The 5Cs" on power 98 trailers...

But U want check out a REALLY GREAT harp player - scope out KELVIN "SMOKY" LIM - plays at Roomful of Blues & other places sumtymes..

One of the best I've seen - like VAI on harp man...had fun cutting heads (guitar vs harp) with him...

hey azlan, what is the key of ur harmonica? i read in ur post u got the Hohner. is it a diatonic Marine Band or Blues Harp? or is it the chromatic type with a "push-button" at the side?

ok, what little i know of harmonica is u have to play it in relation with the key of ur song. if ur harmonica is in the key of C, u try playing (or get someone to play) this blues shuffle progression:
Gx4 - Cx2 - Gx2 - Dx1 - Cx1 - Gx1 - Dx1
then u just blow/solo away on ur harmonica. it should sound ok! u try...

hehehehehh... ok, that is just a very simplistic way of playing/explaining abt the harmonica. (i'll probably get dissed by the experts/purists here!) of course u can't be like Smokey overnight. u need practice/playing/performance for years to even come close to 10% to 15% of what he does!

important note: if ur harmonica is in a different key, then u have to transpose the chords of the blues progression.

hey hey i would be interested in learning how to play the harmonica... how much would a harmonica cost? Cus my singing is rather horrible so it might be a good idea to use the harmonica to do the singing while i play the guitar. heh.
 
there r cheap ones n there r quality expensive ones. my mom bought me the last 1 when i was 10. for abt 24 bucks. dunno if thtz gd or bad. harmonicas were a childhood fetish.
 
hahaha yes! i agree.. it's like a must have during those childhood days.. nowadays the kids would want PSP gameboy, bla bla.

Aiya i'm not that old.. 17only. But yeah. I did have a harmonica.. those 80cents one.

Hmm my budget would be around 50 and below.. any idea where i can get it? i know nuts about harmonica
 
i really have no idea coz after i turned 11 i totally forgot there r such things. fgl should know the answer. n i dont think u need to spend tht much tho. thtz what i think. itz meant to b a cheap n gd musical intrument :lol:

there are lots of places to get them actually. big shops usually have them. try Swee Lee, i know they have a huge range. the one i recommend is Hohner Marine Band. its $19.00 if i'm not wrong. and remember that they come in diffrent keys. so be aware. i'll recommnd a C diatonic scale one for beginner as there is no sharps or flats in the scale. so, its easier to relate. once u got one, check out the "lesson" i posted earlier in this thread... enjoy blowing.

one more thing, when u blow, and when u suck, u get differnt notes coming out from the harmonica...
 
i used to have one. 2 in fact. id buy one and people who come over would blow it, so i bought new one. same incident. i gave up hahahahaha. but this was years ago in primary school :lol:
 
i've got one...but it's dead..i tried to learn online...but i just could'nt got the hang of it. I'd thought it would be as easy as visiting mxtabs.net
 
mine is a hohner 1493/32 G echo 32 Stimmen...... bought it for 54 bucks at yamaha....... good sound!
