guitars

hmmm..i wonder if that's the only way to define it...let's say u chance upon a say, 1.2k guitar fitted with very good parts and electronics, has superb craftsmanship playability and tone, would it qualify as a high end guitar as opposed to a gibson lp?

it could be a $20 guitar, but if it had good parts, good tonewoods, good feel, and good craftsmanship, i'd call it high end even if my dog made it.

i think a high end guitar is a good guitar, not a branded one. :)

high-end's a very subjective term. to me, high-end just means more than what you need. a high end guitar's fitted and adorn with all the lavish woods, AAAA maple, nice inlays, gold hardware, rare woods, brand name, which equates to cost making them expensive. low-end might just mean a stripped down guitar, say in a Les Paul case, epiphone wld be comparatively low-end (epiphone lovers pls don't flame me) while the gibson would mean high-end. it doesn't mean that the epi LP will under-perform the gibson LP ceteris paribus (in economics, ceteris paribus = all other factors remain constant except cost in this case), including workmanship. so yah, if you're a good player, a stripped down guitar wld still work for u.

ermmm.. pls take my post with a pincha salt, i may not be in the right mind while posting this.

As can be seen, different people have different ways to define high-end.

For me, the following statements explain my perception of what is "high-end".

High end guitars are ......

1. .... stock guitars whose price bracket is in SGD 3.5k to SGD 6.5k.

2. .... meticulous wood grade selection and has minimal finish imperfections.

3. .... associated with the words; custom shop, boutique, private stock, signature model, reknowned luthier, quality hardware, work of art, benchmark for craftsmanship.

4. .... not necessarily as good sounding as a SGD 200 in the tone department but nevertheless loved by collectors.
