yo guys, i have a question. does mahogany bodied guitars weighs a ton? i have tried other mahogany bodied guitars like epis and other lp copys.. some of them can really break ur back while others are damn light! i got this hamer satf which is damn light, it claims in its website that it uses mahogany, that its way lighter than any solid body guitar that i've owned such as ibanez which is basswood. and i tried this suzuki guitar and its damned bloody heavy!!!! why is this so? do some brands make false claim or do they do some chambered thingy to the body to make it light like some gibbys. can some one pls enlighten me on this as im very curious whether my hamer is really a mahogany or not..

mahogany isnt THAT heavy. les pauls are heavy cos of the maple top they use. maple is the heavy wood.

ohhhh i see. thnx man! :D now isnt that gud for me! haha... btw thrs this ?.suzuki brand lp i tried weighs like a ton!! i'm like omg how can anione play this thing standing! but even worst was some peavey strat!! that was even heavier!!!! does weight of guitar(wood type) have any effect on the tone? does heavier means better for warm sounds???

no it doesnt. u should do research on the net abt the types of wood. mainly, ash, alder, maple, mahogany, basswood.

the internet has lots of info u know?

try BCRich guitars, they'll smash your toes if you drop them xD xD. Most of them are made of mahogany I believe.

generally, the more massive it is, the more sustain it induces but PRS keep their guitars light & their sustain are incredible.

wood mass is just one ingredient of sustain inducement.

there needs to be a balance when this is concerned. too much lows & the signal suffers from ill-definition, too much highs then it'll sound too piercing; too bright to be useful.
