Where and how do I start learning?
I heard very few people in Singapore can do a very good job. So it might be worthy of learning how to do it.

It's a craft by itself, from grounds up you need up to 10yrs just to master the woodworking part and identify different parts and config. Then comes the electronics........is also a different level of expertise.

As just a hobby, ok. But you cannot get enough exposure by that as the community here is too small.

My advise, look elsewhere. A job which earns you $30-40 per minor repair maybe have 2 or 3 incidents per week only if you open a shop. A reality check, how to make a living???

My personal experience stem from the fact I am self taught in electronics, so that part covered. The wood part, I can only do the less major stuffs. Also I am a very hands-on person. I have to say, like a musician, you need to have the talents. That's why I am not a musician.

Don't bother if you are not good in DIY and more important, have a special feel when you start working on it.

If you do not have that special feel when working on the craft, you customer will have tons of complaints afterwards.

Practically most if not all "luthier" are not true professional craftsman here in singapore. Bcuz, cannot survive if so. Most have other jobs or trades to supplement their income.

So look from a general perspective, not in narrow view. The grass always looks greener on the other side, and when you take all the effort and time to reach there, it taste the same.
