Hi. I have been playing the guitar for 11 years now and am self taught. Being self taught, I know the difficulties that guitarists generally face while learning on their own and have effective solutions to the difficulties faced.
I come from a rock/metal background where I worked out all the 'work out' techniques like alternate picking, sweep picking, tapping etc. I then got into fusion where improvisation is the core that requires the application of various different techniques and theory. I now play mostly jazz which is the root of fusion and from playing jazz I have a deeper understanding of various theories behind the songs I play. I sometimes play with a full band or just play with a singer (maybe percussionist). By playing with a singer alone, having a firm grasp of everything happening in a song is crucial. I am developing a technique that spices up songs in this setting using different techniques instead of just strumming to give a song more energy and groove while keeping the harmony in tact.
