Hey i am planning to refinish my alder strat with tung oil. Anyone knows where to get Tung Oil. It creates this dark tone if u apply around 6 layers of it and it makes your alder body look like mahagony! :D If you all have any info on where to get tung oil, please tell me dudes!
Thanks :!:

Tung oil does slightly darken the wood, but it won't really make alder look like mahogany. You can get it in hardware stores. Try the one in Shaw Tower (?), the building connected to Lido.

Alternatives that could be used are danish oil, teak oil, antique oil, tru oil, etc. Do note that some "tung oil" products on the market are just diluted lacquers, aka wiping varnish.

Also, I recommend at least 10 coats of tung oil to get any decent protection at all.

Thanks man! I'm going there tomorrow where is is located at. Is it a hardware shop at shaw towers? :)

Yep, I thinnk it's called Handyman Center or something. It's located at a corner. Ultra friendly husband and wife team mans the shop. If u have any queries feel free to ask em, they're always more than willing to help.

Thinking of refinishing my strat to fiesta red or olympic white. Don't know where to get those nitrocellulose paint though. I refinished my Gibson SG from natural (walnut) to cherry red before using Betex lacquer bought from hardware stores too. They are quite good though, quite close to the original colour.

betex may not be 100% nitro but it is close. it will check and cure like nitro lacquer...im refering to the clear lacquer not the pre-stained type

Lacquer and Varnish are 2 differen solvent.
lacquer mixed with thinner n quickier to dry
Varnish is slow to dryness
