Hi softies. Just to ask a uber guitar rookie question: Will guitar cords/ cables fit all amplifiers?

I've recently gotten myself a BOSS ME-25 for my amp, so i'm wondering whether all guitar cords/ cables will fit my amplier/ guitar.

Also, where can i get relatively cheap guitar cords/ cables?

Thanks!

a quick answer to this would be: any cable would work. however, i'd urge you to invest a little bit more on the noiseless ones.

Guitar equipment almost always uses quarter-inch cables. Those are the guitar cables you're familiar with. It's only when you're mic-ing up your amp for a performance or going into a PA system that you see some weird cables coming. But over time those become normal too.

I personally favour Tone Drive cables. I have a 3m Tone Drive cable that I bought several years back, and it's still going strong. Uber reliable. Used it for a performance too.

he he, bro... that should be quarter inch plug instead, yes?

Yeah true... haha... people around me often refer to them as quarter-inch cables so I usually label them as such. But usually I'm referring to the plug being quarter-inch.

Also consider the shape of the plug.........there are straight and L-shaped heads.......L-shaped heads are generally preferred by guitarists whose guitars have the jack at the side of the guitar, near the strap button. Certain guitars like the Line 6 Variax have another jack for another type of plug (XLR?). The purpose of that i'm not too sure. But yes, all quarter inch jacks will work for all amps and guitars. And yay, another Tonedrive user! Though i sold mine to a friend and got Planet Waves noiseless cables instead. Those are gooooood too.

Since multi-effects processors like the ME-25 are quite complicated devices with some extra features for convenience and practicality, the larger ones might also have a different jack designed to go direct into a mixer (XLR I think), in addition to the quarter-inch input and output jacks.

Also, some multi-effects processors might have two output jacks, which is designed for stereo use. If you're only using one amp, you can probably use either, but generally I stick with the left output jack on my Floor POD.

Just some extra info if you need it. :p

I prefer the sound that the Planetwaves Circuit Breaker gives me over the Tone Drive ones. Feels punchier and the plugs feel a lot better as they don't pop when you accidentally twist them.

how about bullet cables? lava cables? george L cables ? what you guys think of them?

IMHO beyond the budget/concerns of a casual player or beginner. Some people think they have mojo. I intend to get a Bullet or Lava coily cable soon, but other than that I'm happy with Planet Waves Circuit Breaker or Canare GS-6 for leads and Canare GS-4 for patch cables. The Canares with Neutrik or flat angled plugs from TYMC of course :)
