friends, i recently bought a new bass amp, the above pictured Ibanez SW35 & had the chance to plug in guitars into it, thought that i share some stuff here.
there's nothing wrong with plugging a guitar into a bass amp (not the other way round though- bass will rip off your guitar amp's speaker cones). the reason why i'm sharing this here is that, unlike bass amps, only the bigger wattage guitar amp models possess the FX loop feature, which allows you to plug your pedals/ multi FX units, in parallel to the amp.
the above SW35 amp is only a 35watter (predictably) & it features an FX loop facility. if you are looking forward to own such a feature for a bargain (SW35 List: $300), this might be an alternative to consider. the only thing lacking here is a reverb option but chances are, if you own a POD or other equivalent multi FX units, there's a reverb feature there.
i'm not guaranteeing that what you hear coming from such a set up is ear candy but you're be better off hearing what it has to offer, than dismissing it entirely. POD owners, it sure beats buying a cab + power amp.
on a personal note, i like what i hear. the deep amp cab of the SW35 has enough bass response to make it sound punchy, considering that the default driver here is the 10" variety. pedal tones come through impressively both in series & in parallel.
hope this triggers some option revision for those of you intending to vary your tone 8)
