Guitar action.

Howdy. I'm new here, just as i am to playing the guitar. Anyways, i've got this acoustic guitar and i was wondering if the above setup is considered 'high action' for a absolute beginner like me. I find it painfully hard to press the right notes.

And if its so, how would i go about rectifying it?

Thanks alot.

thats very veryvery high. in fact, if you find it PAINFULLY hard to press the right notes, something must be wrong yeah :)

my acoustic's action is around that height too

it was painful at first... but i eventually got used to it

or once your finger skin starts to harden, you'll hardly feel anything :P

it actually trained my finger strength since i started learning guitar on it too

i'm still using the same acoustic and with the same action height today  though the guitar's pretty beaten up alr

hey peeps,my acoustic is like that too,can i send it for adjustments? anyone knows where i can bring it to and how much would i cost. thanks!

How u strengthen ur finger? And is the Planet waves Wristmaster (i think) good? its like a hand grip with four springs for the 4 fingers.

Go to G77 Beez or Luther, both'll gladly do it and with good service too. Or go to www.standardvalue.com.sg, the boss does set-up too, but its in woodlands. But if ur looking 4 a DS-1, do go check out his DS-1 mod, wonderful tube amp tone.
u mean mike yeaH? i got an acoustic guitar which is like that too... got in from symphony music school. so anyone know how much it cost to go for a setup at standard value??

Hmm.

Might I ask what brand of guitar this is? I've come across so many cheapo guitars that have such high action (around 6-7mm at 12th fret?) and that's not really much to wonder at.. considering you would not expect much QC or setting-up at the factory of lower-end brands.

But that said, I've come across many 'good' branded guitars off the shelf with bad set-up :?

You can try to lower the bridge saddle area. If the saddle has shims (like little strips of plastic or wood) underneath, then you can just remove a few and see if the action is more suitable.

High action would strengthen your fingers, but ultimately you'd be haing a higher chance of being out of tune at the higher frets due to poor intonation.

And in case you're feeling itchy fingers, leave any truss-rod action fiddling to a pro
