Hi all, I don't know if this warrants a new thread in this section but I have no idea where to start because I don't know much about guitars. I haven't posted here in years and years but now I need some help and advice in shopping for a gift for my dad's upcoming 60th birthday in December.
Toying with the idea of getting a Gretsch Electromatic Hollow Body... I've done a bit of research myself and judging by his music preferences and his mentioning of the aesthetics of a guitar that appeals to him, he will probably enjoy something like that. I used to play bass many years ago but no longer do (if that knowledge is even relevant) and I know nothing about guitars, so I will need some help. My dad has been working really hard and now that he is retiring this year, he will finally have time to pick up something that he has wanted to do for a really long time, which is to play the guitar. I know how hard it is to pick up an instrument at that age, but well I think that's the least I could do for him and would help him to occupy his days now that he will have a lot of time on his hand.
Can anyone provide advice on where I can pick up something like that locally? I haven't had time to head down to Swee Lee yet but I do know they carry Gretsch guitars from my snooping around. Do they carry the electromatic series? Are there any other local retailers for Gretsch? Also, does anybody have any idea on what the price range like for these?
Not ruling out the possibility of picking up something online and having it shipped over if I can't find it locally but I would rather purchase it locally if I can.
Thanks for all the help in advance!
