So what exactly is the most difficult genre to master, of course each has its own difficulties, but some like punk are very easy to master right?

Well its impossible to say you have mastered a genre or any form of music, however I understand your question. For the guitar, I would have to say Jazz or Classical. These two genres require a ridiculously great amount of right hand and left hand coordination ( I'm not saying other genres don't, however these genres call for a higher technical level more often. )

Hope this helps.

its undoubtly neo classical, since it involves knowing classical music and its theory inside out as well as your daily technique practice routines.

however, i find this topic rather contradicting a bit. since music is an art, it has no limits and boundaries. genres are the styles of what people think are music. (jazz, neo classical, alternative bla bla..) i could think that using a violin in a pop rock band (yellowcard)is cool or maybe i feel that 3 guitarists are needed for a band...you get the idea. i dont think master is the correct term, i think the word you are searching for here is appreciate. i feel people should really treat music as an artform and not as some kind of thing to showoff (sorry if im actually contradicting talent here..)

hope this helps

cheers :)

definitely jazz. jazz is not insane shredding like neo classical. it requires feel and lots of improvisation and wide knowledge of theory :P

i think Jazz is the hardest .
yea , im hoping to learn Blues and Jazz , maybe Classical .

music has no specific genres .
some bands have mixed genres or their own genre [ style ? ] .

Well to me, it doesn't matter which genre is the hardest to master ... what really matters is that when you wake up every morning .... what is the tune that rings in your head?

Well Jazz is a very complete genre of music i should say ... it is rhythmically, Melodically, Harmonically complex and sound. But ask a jazz musician to play you a rock song .... you probably won't get much conviction as much as you would get from a true blue rocker.

As for me, i hear rock tunes all the time. But everytime i pick up the guitar ... i play melodic patterns and chord tones ... i guess i just feel it everytime my fingers sink into the fingerboard.

But to really study how Jazz musicians think or feel .... it's a totally diffferent dimension altogether. You can no longer think or apply what you know from Rock, Pop and Metal. It's not a a matter of difficulty .... it's a matter of difference.

Well jazz is still a place that is beyond my reach. It's like a difference between 2D and 3D. There's a difference between playing a scale with warpspeed and pinpoint accuracy and being able to handle rhythm, chords and melody at the sametime.

Ultimately, just play to your heart ... To each Genre for itself.

i've heard/read stuff saying tt blues is complex..but i didnt understand y...i consulted the guy whom i alwaes look to 4 guitar matters n he said blues is juz pentatonic + ri note in the middle n didnt understand either...can some1 explain?

A genre is never defined by a scale .... typically a blues Maj scale is a Pentatonic scale with a chromatic note between the 2nd and 3rd note. But many different scales can be applied to a Blues progression ... like Dorian, Mixolydian, Minor and Maj blues .... because of the variety of scales applicable .... some even defined it using Altered Blues scale.

But i think the hardest thing to master is not about scales and technics ... these are just asthetics ... the hardest thing to master is the feel. Ever wonder why people can recognise BB King just by hearing one note from him? Coz when you can feel it ..... you got the blues.
