Gears for a beginner!

Hi there, i am deciding to start playing drums! However i am unsure of the gears to buy!
I'm not intending to buy a drum kit in maybe a year or 2. I am more inclined towards buying a practise pad with a pair of drumstick and start practising! But i am not sure whether to buy a regular practise pad or a digital practise pad with a metronome (Like de Alesis E-Pad). Any advice?
Also for drumsticks, should i start with a heavier pair of sticks like 5A to train my wrists?
Thanks in advance! Tried researching but still can't get my answers, sorry!

Not too sure what kinds of practice pad to recommend but a practice pad with a metronome sounds good! That way, you won't need to buy a separate metronome for practising. Or you could get a normal practice pad and invest in a good metronome and use it for years to come since the metronome won't be stuck onto the practice pad. You'll be able to use it next time when you get yourself a kit to practice on.

5A is pretty much a standard kind of size for a drumstick. Perhaps you could try a 5B or 3As for training sake? I play 5As but there was a period of time when I used the Zildjian Travis Barker signature sticks. Not sure what size they were but they were definitely much heavier than my 5As. Switched back to 5As after awhile. Not sure if I played better/faster though, as many other drummers would say.
