What kinda gear is good for a metal guitarists set up..playing from the styles of metallica to linkin park papa roach to slayer and rammstein kinda sounds.. Which guitars, pedals, amps would be great to bring out the sounds and energy from songs.. Is Gibson Voodoo any good? Thanks guys!

ok ok.. to share my 2cents worth again.
First of all, it doesn't matter what genres u play.
a) U have to like the look of the guitar.
b)U have to feel shiok playingwith the guitar. Imagine, if u feel that using an Explorer to play your metallica riff, and u have hard time keepin it on ur lap, worth it or not?
c) U have to understand that most CDs that u had heard undergo millions of dollars worht of production process. No point seeking via that way cos it will only 'sound like them' in your bed room and not during your live shows.
d)My belief is there isn't such thing as Metal Guitar or Punk Guitar or Blues guitar.. think Iron Maiden...they are using Fender! A beri 'un-metal' guitar! :) korrect?

So what i suggest is try to create a sound that u think is unique and shiok. In my opinion, that's what matters most. It's after all about being Creative and Original rite? :) In music, there is no right or wrong. ;) Good luck with ur experiment!

for metal, you don't need a particularly good guitar... what u probably need are high output PUs with heavy distortion pedals and a good amp to bring the sound out.

The gibson voodoo has a swamp ash body btw, so you may not get that typical "heavy" les paul sound from the standard models. I love swamp ash for cleans but it cannot have the mahogany tone with distortion.

i don't hear any Les Paul tones from the SG models- the reason i buy one 8) . i'm not putting down the Les Pauls in any way but both the LP & SG were conceived to generate a differentiated tone. for a more bass-friendly tone the LP would do the job. for more definition without excessive bass, the SG would fit the bill.

Just curious, where can i find a gibson voodoo on sale? I don't see them anywhere in singapore? Particularly the Les Paul Model, i've been wanting to get one but there just isn't any. Anyone selling theirs? Thanks.

Schecters, Ibanez RGs. That's what typical setup would be.

As for amps, go for one with a good clean/basic tone, with basic OD/Distortion and get a real high gain pedal for saturation.
