Gear Question

Hi Fellow Filipinos,

I'm kinda new here in SG and I've been reading through some of the articles in SOFT and very impressed that we have our own area in the forums.

I'm a guitarist and I left all my gears back home in the Philippines... currently running 4 months without a guitar and I can assume that I'm in a withdrawal stage... haha ...

Kidding aside, I was wondering how much it would cost me to get my guitar and gears here to SG because I'm just starting and out here and doesn't have enough moolah to spare for music at the moment.

I have also been checking out the classified section to have an idea of how much to prepare if I'm just going to start buying all the important necessities to play in a band.

Questions:

Are there any taxes that I / or the person that I can ask - have to pay when I / or the person that I can ask - hand carries them from the Philippines to SG?

Are there any special laws concerning carrying instruments from one country to another?

Will it be cheaper to have my stuff shipped from the Philippines to SG and what can you recommend as a carrier to ship those delicate items.

Are there other options I can take legally to get my things from the Philippines to SG?

Any input will be greatly appreciated....

I've carried guitars a few times. No problem what so ever. Just put it in the hardcase and make sure you have enough baggage allowance.

I just hand carried my bass w/ soft case. It fits the plane's overhead compartment. There's no extra charge as long as its w/in the kg limit. I think you need to check it in if you are using hardcase / semi hardcase.

Thanks kapatid,

Nice to hear... I don't want to check my things in because of handling reasons... Most of the checked-in bags gets tumbled around specially when loading and off-loading...

Maraming salamat sa mga sumagot ng aking katanungan... malaking tulong sa akin...:)
