Highlights: Spoon, Sparks, Foals, Neon Neon, the Breeders.
Surprises: Primal Scream (Bobbie was lucid for the whole set; also did a duet with Lovefoxx), Mono, Rodrigo Y Gabriela (Mariachi duo who rocked), Cribs (I was expecting the Kooks, got a shot of pure energy), Wrench (Linkin Park gone v v heavy), Feeder (never disappoint), Seasick Steve (da blues, on his $75 three string , "piece of s*@" guitar), Galactic (New Orleans' Stanton Moore on drums)
Good: Kasabian (a bit too Primal Scream lite), Hard Fi (ended with "Working for the Weekend"), Travis (just as it started to rain briefly on Saturday), Presidents of the Unites States of America (did Volcano, Peaches, and new stuff ... growing old disgracefully), the Vines, Gossip, Ian brown (briefly), Jakob Dylan (briefly), Ben Folds, CSS
Okay: Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks (think this goes best with spliff), My Bloody Valentine (included a 20 min white noise solo on one chord with cymbal roll), Bloc Party (drummer was good), the Rascals, Courteeners (no Libertines or Oasis), Zutons (valerie!), Mystery Jets (gone 80s with second album, enjoyed the material from the first), Underworld (reverb drenched trancy ... left before Born Slippy).
Wish I had seen, but couldn't due to scheduling: Futureheads, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Kate Nash
Seen in the bar: Spoon, Mani (Primal Scream), Kate Nash and one of the Jarmans.
Weather: sunny for 2 1/2 days. Wet Sunday afternoon ... but who cares when you are going to see the Breeders.
Food: anything you could wish for.
Resolution: start saving for next year. Remember to waterproof rainjacket.
P.S. would appreciate a review on Summersonic if anyone is going - is next weekend and has a good line-up.
