FAQ 1 - do I need a headphone amp?
Easy to drive - 'passable' on an i-Pod, but, of course, sounds best ('fuller') with an amp.
FAQ 2 - is the ad900 different from the ad900x?
Yes, the ad900 is the 1st design; even the drivers are different from that of the 'x.'
Now a 'discontinued' model.
FAQ 3 - description of the ad900 sound?
If you are a bass-head - look else where.
If you like your soundstage very wide, 'neutrality' and details, do consider the ad900.
I personally recommend pairing it with a 'warm' setup to 'balance off' the 'clinical details' and natural-but-not-exaggerated bass of the ad900.
FAQ 4 - is it true the Audio technica Air series is for 'big heads'?
Yes, so I strongly recommend reading reviews, or auditioning 1st (with regards to size/ fit.)
Having said that - the Air series is very, very comfortable for 'big heads.'
