Hard Maple (Acer saccharum):

"This is the traditional Fender neck wood. Dense, hard and strong, offering great sustain and stability. The tone is bright. Maple must be finished to protect from warping"

Ebony (Dispyrus melanoxylon):

"This is black ebony. Very hard, smooth and fast feeling that has a bright, long sustaining tone. Chocolate brown or dark gray streaks are not uncommon. Available primarily as fingerboards and occasionally for full neck construction."

Indian Rosewood (Dalbergia latifolia):

"This is the most popular fingerboard wood. It has a warm "rock'n roll" tonality. Colors range from dark purple to lighter purple with yellows and orange."

Rosewood sounds darker, more mellow than maple, feels faster. Maple compared to rosewood has more clarity and twang but might feel slower or more sticky. Generally most people prefer rosewood for rock and maple for "lighter" styles, but don't let playing style dictate what to use. Should go on how you like the way it plays and how it sounds. Some shredders like maple fretboards.

Ebony, I think, is a lot like rosewood but is more focused on certain frequencies. On a magohany body and set neck LP sort of guitar, it gives it more clarity/articulation compared to rosewood fretboards? Ebony has a more subtle difference to rosewood than maple.

fretboard stickiness isn't as severe as neck stickiness IMO. i can play as fast on maple fretboards as i can on rosewood ones.
