Fret buzz

Hey guys! Got a new washburn last saturday and discovered that its got fret buzz on lower E and B strings. Should exchange it for a new one or just get it repaired at same shop I bought it from?

you meant higher E and B strings... well there is no need to go to the extreme of exchanging a guitar... I believe that adjusting / changing your bridge should work

Its setup alright and im quite sure its fret buzz. So, what's the best or normal course of action? Replace with a new one or just have it repaired?

Ohh okay. I just thought of the exchange part because its pretty new and even my el cheapo guitar before never had fret buzz so there must be something wrong with the build i just bought. However, if you say exchanging it is a bit extreme then i guess gettin it repaired for free would do right? :)

Well.. Its not like it was rusty all over.. Just a few noticeable ones in between the neck and bridge on the G B E strings.. Sigh..

The strings usually buzz a lot more when it is rusty. Since you claim that it is setup alright, the next few course of action will be to check the root of the buzz. There can only be a few problems.

1. Action too low (which also means your guitar isn't setup properly or frets are not levelled properly thus, preventing you from getting low action. However, there are also a lot of cases where the action is just simply too low anyway)

2. Frets are not level. Look at point one.

3. Strings are rusty and action too low. Yes, as your strings are uneven all over, thanks to the grime and rust, some of the frets might actually buzz.

4. Neck not straight or back bowed. (This also means that the setup is bad. Hence setup)

5. Frets unseated properly. Almost the same as uneven frets but easier to remedy.

Don't think there are anything else. I will add on to the list if I missed out something.

One other suggestion... if you're going to bring it back to the shop. Just try another one. If the other guitar you try doesn't buzz... just ask to change it since its practically new.

Otherwise, check the set up first. If its a floyd equipped guitar with a lock nut, maybe the nut is too low. But that rarely happens since most guitars out of the box would have action on the slightly high side.

Thanks for the sugestions guys! Actually the shop just adjusted the bridge higher and it was ok. I really wanted to return it but then the previous suggestions was to have it checked first. Anyways, all is good now!

Much thanks to ya'll and hope your suggestions can help others too :)
