Freight costs / Importing...

Hi
Just wondering if anyone can provide some insights/advise on this.
Without going into details..

I intend to import some goods (non-dutiable) from overseas. First-timer. The door-to-door airfreight charges, arranged by the supplier, at the cheapest costs approx 3/4 of the goods I ordered. This doesnt include the GST I have to cough up when the goods arrive! Which in total will be abt 2.0 times of what I'll be paying for the goods

And this is 'freight-ening'.

Any affordable method like... ifs there a possibility to arrange the shipping from SG? Maybe its cheaper?

If youve got any experience you'd like to share, I'm all ears.

Tks/goose.

I have ordered some stuff in the past -- cymbals and hardware (when I was new here and didn't know better!), an 8-pre Audio interface (which worked out about 150 bucks cheaper than it is here in Singapore) and some other small stuff here and there.

Note that if what you're ordering is either big and bulky (irrespectively of weight) and / or heavy (irrespective of size), shipping may cost quite a bit. So may be wiser to buy things like guitars, drumsets, flight cases, etc. locally. But if you're looking at ordering some mics, "small" effect pedals / processors, and other stuff like that, may be cheaper to order from abroad IF you're willing to forego to warranty support, because thats usually valid only in the country of purchase.

May want to consider www.hopshopgo.com or www.borderlinx.com (need a citibank credit card for this) or even Singpost has a V-post service that works in a similar way. They give you international delivery addresses, so your supplier only delivers locally -- this is most common for ordering from the US. And they ship to SG at much lower costs than what the supplier would charge, which usually is UPS or DHL or something.

Hope this helps.

Hey tks for the info man.
Regretfully none of them serves the country I'm ordering from. It does give me some ideas tho.
hmmmm...
