hey..
i 've been wondering.
floyd rose guitar usually come with a locking nut near the machine head.
what if i dont use the locking nut,
will is be out of tune after like 30 mins?

and also,
if we perform with that kind of guitar then our songlist consist of difftype of tune,
then how we suppose to tune on stage?
bring the allen key izit??
hahahah!

the job of the locking nut is to prevent string movements there when you whammy- this is the reason why the Floyd unit & its equivalents are preferred for wide range vibrato application; it stays in tune better.

if you don't whammy & need several tuning changes during performances, you are better off without the dual locking unit.

More like a minute or less! Sub is right. The locking nut is PRIMARILY to prevent strings detuning. The FR is a very sensitive bridge.

You dont.
If you are using one guitar, use a gtr with a fixed bridge.
Anyway, imo RE-TUNING on stage is a big no-no :(

If you have two gtrs, ROCK on!!

A friend of mine (who's also a member on this forum) has an Ibanez S470, and he removed the locking nut. He can do some minor whammies and the thing stays in tune.

Better to have 2,3 guitars with all different tunings if on stage. That's the only way and if u have, its awesome!
There is no way u gonna change tuning of a FR guitar on stage, will be hell no.

thanks for ur point of view.
im plannning to buy yamaha RG550DZ.
as i like to play the whammy.haha

ok ok.
one more,
if i remove the locking nut then i dont use the whammy,
still the same?
out of tune?

It should stay in tune, for a while at least.
If you change the tuning (for example from standard to drop C), it all goes to hell.

Im curious. Why would you want to remove the locking nut and still use a floating trem guitar?

certain songs like 'metalingus' i wanna try the whammy,
but then most songs i played dont require whammy ,
also i own a les paul guitar.. so i wanna try other types of guitars...

Hi TS :)
I'm a flyod rose user and sometimes I perform with and without the locking nut depending on my song list. Your guitar should stay in tune for quite a while without the locking nut, it won't affect much trust me.

Since you're playing songs with different tunings and you do have a les paul as well, might as well just make full use of both guitars. It'll be easier for you to just change guitars :)

As for me, I only have one guitar, so I transpose accordingly. 1 less guitar to carry for my gig, works for me.
