bro if ur changing strings as long as it's the same gauge no further set up is needed
just that if it goes outta tune due to the new strings you gotta tune it up again.. and oh yes rmb to stretch your strings..
Seems like the bridge keeps rising away from the body as I tune standard, plus, when I play and use whammy, my tuning somewhat drops flat and it doesn't go back to standard tuning, any clues or remedy? I'm at a stage where I have completely restrung, somewhat I manage to get my floyd rose parallel to body *phew* but, why does my whammy bar feels the tension and does not go back to tuning once I whammy?
Balancing out the trem to be parallel to the body -- tune up your strings and then gradually adjust the springs (from the screws) at the back of the bridge to get it parrallel to the body. Will need to do it a few times with trial and error to get both the tuning and the angle of the bridge just right.
About strings going flat when using the whammy -- it's very normal for new strings. the only 2 things you can do are stretch (yes, literally pull and stretch!) your strings to a point where you know that bending will not stretch them any more. and then make sure that both the lock -- at the bridge and the nut -- are screwed tight enough to leave no room for the string to slip through when you use the whammy. Most of the time, it's the stretching issue (cos pretty much everyone knows how to lock the strings ). Make sure you really stretch them out well.. chances are, you may snap the string while stretching it.. it's OK. The next time, you'll know when to stop stretching Keep a few spares always.
And yea, just Google something like "restring floyd rose", and you'll have a zillion videos showing you how to do it just right.
the whammy bridge (Floyd Rose & its derivative) is not a problem, the real problem is our impatience & the lack of embrace for such contraptions. we need to understand how it works because that's how it is.
That sucks man.. coz once you have your stuff set up right, it's just plain awesome! After getting used to my JS and RG (more the RG than the JS), playing on any strat or les paul or anything with a fixed bridge seems incomplete and a bit like a joke. I might get thrashed for that comment.. but hey, sue me! I love floating trems!
no you won't get trashed- it's all about adaptation & preferences. i feel that on some days i do need the whamy bridgefeel despite not doing the whammy...
