ok i read the older forums discussed, and saw many things like this floyd doesn't stay in tune (lotrsii) that floyd doesnt stay in tune (ilt1)

my question is why?

why am i asking why?

well technically i don't see why it would go out of tune, it locks at the nut, and also at the bridge rite? so the closest reason i can think of is that there are insuffecient springs or that the springs have not seasoned, any1 care to enlighten me why these 2 bridges are so horrid?

anw im not flaming any1, im just very erm...curious?

and also im shopping for a floyd replacement for mi yamaha and no i cant afford an OFR or schaller or gotoh, any other alternatives?

thanx

Due to the mechanisms involved in the strings double locking (which are inferior...btw) they don't hold tuning well. This is due to their cost-cutting designs, having to make do with such stuff.

Also, the total structure isn't as stable or smooth, and therefore when pulled or dived, does not return string to the CORRECT pitch DUE to their (once again) inferior make.

String-Spring balance is vital in a FR system, and this is something the lower end trems cannot accomodate well.

BUT do note that if you don't do any wanking on the whammy bar, the bridges should stay in relatively good tune.

but what i meant as in specifically in the 2 bridges is so wrong, so i can see if i can find similar properties in other licensed bridges, and avoid them

Basically its the structure of the trem. It has to be balanced in its mass and overall weight to be stable. The thing about them is once they are push/pull-ed their design does not allow them to return to the correct pitch. I think this has something to do with the total design overall. Compare an Ibanez Edge Pro to the TRS and you might notice the different structure. If possible, find those exploded diagrams (I have, on the net) , compare them, I think you might get a better understanding there.

Edit : Hey I think the knife edges might reveal some clues too.

Its the materials used. The metals are simply not hard enough. THe OFR uses harden steel thru out the design. Edges use harden steel knife edges, steel baseplates and spewter (sp?) trem blocks.

In any case, the TRS and ILT have serious QC issues: Saddles not fitting together well, screws that strip easily, fine tuners that don't fine tune well and so on. You can see it with the untrained eye. Just compare it to the Gotoh or Edge Pro.

Similiar properties with other trems? Rule of thumb, avoid those < $150 SGD like the plague. :) I've seen $40 trems that I wonder why the hell they are ever made?! The TRS can be bought for $150.

Basically, save up for at least an OFR, and if you can, the GOtoh.

THink of it this way, if your current trem is not stable. Or just average on stability. Having that brand new trem equates to actually having a brand new guitar.

In anycase, USD170 (without shipping) for the OFR is not going to get you a new guitar, at least not without the Swee Lee Sale. And the SGD250 or so I spent on my Gotoh, it was the best investment ever, just short of getting a brand new Ibanez Edge (SGD375 without shipping)

Bottom line: Do you really like your axe that much to warrent spending that kind of cash on it?

If no, get a new axe, sell this one off.

Otherwise, save. :)

i got 2 options now, either re-blocking my trem, and get a new guitar with a floyd, or upgrading mi trem, but both cost shit loads of money, and i'm not letting go of mi yamaha, they dun make YGs anymore

and another thing im no so sure of, mi guitar has hell of a lot of fret wear, so i really don't know wad to do, but i love the feel of the guitar so far

Save up for a new trem. $300

Save up for a refret with:
A guitar shop - $250
Malcom - A lot more than $250

It can be done. Seriously. If you really love your axe, go for it.

Is that the one on ur axe shredcow? I plan to get the OFR actually. ANy of you have done any research on the pricing? My lowest price i can get is 160USD.

Yeap, the Gotoh is on my axe. Its superior to the OFR in terms of construction and QC.

The OFR for 160USD is around there lah... :)
