flanger or delay

i play a lot of grunge music and sometimes punk. i've been wanting get a flanger but many of the guys at swee lee tell that the delay is more important. i dunno , cause i really like adding the flanger sound to my solos, but the delay seems to be more favoured by others. what do you think? please give me some good models of flanger or delay pedals.

I'll get the delay 1st. With delay you can do more and flanger isn't really important. I don't think using flanger to play rhythm would sound nice.

For me Delay is cool, cuz it's very versatile....get a very good ambience effect...dual sounds..etc Can do alot with it.

Flanger...hmmm..correct me if I am wrong, its got the aeroplane "flyby" sound right? I only find that useful with alot of palm muting to get some really cool effects....

Well...u're into grunge and punk, really depends on what type of sound u want....maybe listen to some albums and see what effects they use, then u get them lo. I think for punk & grunge more impt to get a good Overdrive or distortion module/pedal.

Yeah... grunge and punk uses very little effects. I don't think they use any effects like flanger, wah wah or even delay.

i use delay every time i play......my flanger is in my effects bag, i rarely use it...

but for grunge i guess you'll use flanger more than a delay...but slight delay will also make ur sound "fuller"

In regard to the orginal post, a delay will be more in use than the flanger, imho. If have to make a choice, just get a multiefx and you have everything. If not, like what stillborn suggested, these are some of the more affordable effect and avaliable locally

Get the delay, one of the better prices and better delay pedal is digitech digidelay. Flanger isn't really that useful. Get THE DELAY!!! DELAY!!!

electro harmonic effect does have some cool design and tone, but definitely not the holy grail of effect.

In term of mass produced effect pedals, they does have some really interesting pedals

Arion effects are the way to go. They have 100% analog delay. Only $50 from Sim Lim. And specially made in exotic Sri Lanka.
