First guitar- Big baby Taylor or Seagull Coastline S6+ spruce?

Hey guys, I'm learning guitar and wondering which guitar is better though. The seagull have a Martin saddle active pickup system. Thanks alot ^^. I appreciate it.

Don't need to buy such an expensive first guitar IMO. Most people sell off their first guitar once they realise their needs in guitar playing. Hence to reduce the losses, get something that sounds decent and easy to play. More of tone vs brand. The 2 stated models are not guitars that would last you a lifetime unless you are the sentimental type.

My suggestion? Celtone guitars at Guitar77. I swear these guitars are really well made and the price is jaw dropping low for the specifications. Yes, most of them are equipped with good pickups. Try them first. Don't be too brand conscious for now.

Actually I don't quite agree, I think its good to have a good first guitar cause if it sounds like crap, and feels like crap. You just don't wanna play as much as you would with a good guitar, and up till now, i still have my first Acoustic guitar which is a Norman B18 Cedar and Mahogany. I absolutely LOVE it, prefer it over my friends Taylor 314ce. But with acoustic guitars, it's best you try all the guitars within the shop in your budget, don't look at brands, cause a beautiful guitar is still a beautiful guitar regardless of where or whom it was made by

My first acoustic was about 800sgd which I thought was fair enough and I still use it now, and it still sounds fantastic even though its scratched up like shit, cause I didn't know how to take care of an acoustic guitar back then HAHAHA but anyway, my suggestion is not look at brands and models, just go and test what you want. Get familiar with the type of sounds you want, like for me, i really wanted a warm sounding guitar and the guy at the shop gave me the Cedar + Mahogany combination which was just what I wanted. Most seagulls come with a cedar top and Wild Cherry back and sides which to me are abit to trebbly and bright for me lah, so its all up to personal preference, but i agree that a good first guitar usually wouldn't be a waste, especially if it's an acoustic

if it sounds good and all it needs is a set up to feel good, I'd go for that. Have to be spec conscious too. lean towards both soild top and back.

picture this. imagine buying a brand new guitar at $800 only to find that you are not that keen to learn the instrument. what if you want to sell? that is usually the problem for beginners. people will just keep the guitar until a few years later when they decide they really don't want to play, that is where the problems kick in. I can foresee warped necks, popping frets, bulging bridges and all sorts of problems that most acoustic guitars face in our climate. I've seen countless people with classical guitars lying around their house with 1 cm action. how to play? give me I also don't want to take haha!

Both are good guitars to start with. I think the Big Baby has very good playability. The neck is very comfortable and the setup is usually good out of the box. Seagulls are decent guitars as well. They get better over time but I'm not too impressed by their Spruce tops as opposed to their Cedar top ones.

I'd say try both and decide which you prefer. I have a Big Baby that I bring around because of its weight and size yet having a good tone. lemonade93 is right, a good guitar makes you wanna play more. Hearing a good player play it makes you think the guitar is better as well. haha.

One last thing, I think the Taylors are more stable in our humid climate as compared to the Canadian made Seagull. They still require some proper care though.
