Extreme Rock Type Of Vocals

Hey People, thisi s my first post i beleive =D
Well anyways, I Participated In A Competition A Few Days Ago[Got second,Those damn dance performance got first!] anyways, My School Teacher[I'm still schooling, 16 this year] told me i have this nice mellow voice and i can kinda go low pitch (i can go high with flaetsco[however you spell it..]) and I wanted to learn well Rocking type of vocals such as bands like Nickelback
Staind
Seether

and sorry for the weak for the weak* playing of instruments, still beginner, guitar and keyboard still basic chords
those kind of rock rock and serak-serak type of vocals. any tips or like useful info to share? i tried shouting to get a sore voice but my voice ended up disappearing instead, kinda resting my voice now haha =D

oh and can someone tell me if the band Rise Against really scream at the top of their lungs or got some skill one?

it's falsetto i believe.
