“… Ozone’s No Name Horses push any doubts firmly aside. Superbly well rehearsed and with individual flair and passion allied to a collective attention to detail, they gave a breathtaking performance.”
– The Herald, 2009
After two sold-out shows at Mosaic Music Festival 2010, premier Japanese jazz musician Makoto Ozone returns bringing a big band sound with No Name Horses!
No Name Horses, a big band led by pianist Makoto Ozone, consists of first-rate Japanese jazz musicians, most of whom are bandleaders in their own right. Formed in 2004, the band came together for the recording of Kimiko Ito’s album Once You’ve Been In Love (Video Arts Music), which was produced by Makoto Ozone. Makoto was convinced of the quality of band’s sound and in 2005, No Name Horses and Kimiko Ito toured to Blue Note jazz clubs all over Japan to celebrate the release of the album.
Right after the tour, No Name Horses recorded their eponymous debut album with master engineer Joe Ferla from New York and released No Name Horses in 2006. The album includes original compositions as well as popular pieces by Makoto Ozone arranged for a big band, featuring creative arrangements and outstanding individual musical techniques are at a level that is rarely heard. No Name Horses went on to make its sensational international debut in New York to more than 10,000 musical participants at the International Association of Jazz Education.
The band released their album No Name Horses II in 2008 to great acclaim and their highly-regarded album Jungle in 2009. In July 2011, No Name Horse released their first live album Back at the Club In Tribute, which consists of popular big band numbers.
