i'm short on cash, so i am intending to buy a mid range guitar, so i am crrently considering an epiphone les paul. However there are so many different epiphone LP, any recommandation?

Epiphone Les Paul Junior
Epiphone Les Paul 100
Epihone Les Paul Standard
Epiphone Les Paul Studio
Epiphone Les Paul Goth Studio
Epiphone Les Paul Studio Chameleon
EPiphone LEs paul Prophacy
Epiphone Les Paul Ultra
Epiphone Les paul Ultra II
EPiphone Les Paul zakk Wylde Customs

Go LP standard plus or custom. That would be what I would go for if i were to get an Epiphone. From standard upwards, there's not much difference other than the visuals (flame maple top, gold hardware, etc). except for the prophecy line, which is quite expensive (around the price of a Gibson BFG), but still pretty tempting. the visuals and the Gibson dirty fingers do look good...

For me i'd wait and save up to get an Edwards or something along that line anyway.

MIK Epiphone Les Paul standard or classic. Since you want mid-range, avoid the MIC Epiphones as those are generally considered low-end, and also, from my experience, are quite poorly-made.

i too thought tat the china standard will be bad, but it depends on where u get it. i have come across 1 shop selling the guitar with a totally diff standard from the 1 sold at swee lee.

This is one statement that really is shallow to make. Since saying a MIC Epiphone is low-end, that makes it all the Epiphones now since production already moved there...

MIK doesn't mean better. Go over to www.MyLesPaul.com and you'll see so many MIC's that are absolutly stunning and from the owners POV, great guitars.

Best advise is still to go down to the store and play one before deciding, be it MIK or MIC, there will be lemons. So play it before paying..

Absolutely. Play abut 5-6 of them before deciding. Play them thru your effects. My great Epi "Slash signature edition" Korean LP sounded like mud... characterless.

MIC epiphones are not bad. just that their resale value isnt as strong as those MIK or MIJ counterparts. their workmanship isnt as bad as one would imagine. I've tried a fair share of them at guitar connection and in my opinion, a nice set of pickups and a setup is the way to go for an awesome guitar around the $500 budget. it is too bad for me since I dont really like the neck feel of les pauls but thats just me :)

I wouldnt say the china epip are poorly made, i have one.
I would say its pretty much decent as mik ones, i've brought dwn to g77 b4 and they said the same.
and i heard the QC supervisor changed to the previous supervisor at us(from gibson factory) or korea, cant rmb.

Cynder: try out the guitar b4 u make any judgement. u might be surprised =9
haha gd luck!
i would say get a standard plain top or a standard.

the funny thing is...
the china epiphones are the authentic ones as they are made in epiphone gibson owned factories...
while the korean ones are all of cos out sourced.

but to give credit to the china epiphones, they are made more to gibson specs than the koreans...in terms of hardware positioning like bridge / tailpiece / knobs etc.

china made doesnt mean the product wont be good.
it's just some black sheeps out there.
i think the chinese are excellent in handmade crafts be it guitar, ornaments, etc.
i bought a $80 strat over at China, but it plays like a Fender.

Yes Epiphones are made in China but be wary when you buy online through Ebay or some online guitar site like Payless where they sell fake Epiphones.

When/If buying from Ebay, take note that Epiphone never sell direct from their China factories so be wary when sellers say the guitars will be shipped direct from the China factories.
