Epiphone Les Paul Silverburst

Hi guys, I need some help here. I bought an Epiphone Les Paul Custom Silverburst around 4 years ago. Now that I try to sell it, I've got people telling me its fake cos the colour is more like a yellowish finish rather than a silverburst finish. I wanna ask if theres a possibility that it is a fake silverburst?

hi, this is just my humble opinion.. the LP custom is finished with nitro cellulose, which ages over time and turns yellowish..

it happened to my Gibby as well but you can't see the yellowing much on a sunburst or ebony finish.

2ndly, no offence but i have heard of counterfeit gibbys, fenders, ya duh ya duh but i don't think people will be bothered to counterfeit an epi or a squire.. the originals are affordable enough already..

so if you ask me, whoever said it's a fake needs to go do some reading..

Hi... i wished too... but than my then 13yrs son was actually fooled to swap his ibanez artcore with a fake epi LP custom 2 years ago here at soft... and i learnt about that by posting the pic here and sought advice from fellow softies ...

Dont be wrong if you check website like alibaba you can find they fake various guitar from epiphone to prs/gibby/fender... etc etc

just my 2 cents though....

Hmmm I learn something new every day then.. :)

fake epis are not mahogany- you can tell if you remove the pickups & see which wood is in there. this is only one way of telling, of course...

this is the guitar in question...

What I find unusual about this guitar is the tuners. All Gibson/ epiphone/ Grover tuners I've seen have the securing screw going straight down. This to me looks more like gotoh style 3x3 tuners where the securing screw is at an angle away from the tuner. If you search the Grover product pages, doubt you can find Grover 3x3 tuners that have the securing screw in that fashion. Closest one to it is the mini rotomatics.

I've read in other forums that an oversized EE (relative to the numerical digits) in the serial number is a sure indication of a fake epiphone. How much you want to trust what people say online depends on you though.

if you buy stuff from authorised dealer, there will be lesser points of centention. but if you buy it used from someone else, be prepared to deal with potential doubts...
