Epiphone Flying Vs

Hello! I'm new to electric guitars and i was wondering if it'll be good to start off with a epiphone flying v as i really like how it looks.

Does it sound good? Is it value for money and what amp should i get?
Oh btw do you guys know the avg price of one, 1st hand and 2nd hand?

flying v's look killer don't they? =)

but like what spug said, they arent as comfortable when sitting down. you will be forced to put the guitar in between your legs and play in a position similiar to how classical guitarists do it. v's are more of a standing guitar and not really for practice.

start of with a superstrat. squier and ibanez have guitars to start learning electric.

cheers ;)

i say, get it. do yourself a favour and get it. you know you want it. flying vs sound ok, and the epiphone brand is pretty trustworthy.

people get flying vs for how they look, not how they sound. they might have a pretty distinctive sound but people don't refer to it much. it's all about how it LOOKS. i would say it sounds decent, like any gibson/epiphone humbucker equipped guitar. get it.

you should give us a rough idea of what sound you are trying to achieve before we can help you.

honestly i don't know!
well, anything but metal
like i said, i'm new so i'll be experimenting alot with different sounds. maybe something along the line of Ash orWeezer or Jet

if you're curious about the price of an epiphone V, please call up some retailers to get quotations. as for the amp, what's your budget? i would recommend an ac30 boosted with a bad monkey od if you can afford it

a flying V but "anything but metal" sounds...heh..i dont know..

wah daryl, AC30? man...thats high end. hehe. maybe a roland cube or pathfinder? tube? there's tiny terror, epi VJ and so on...

you should be able to find one going for cheap around here if you're lucky and patient. besides, you would want to upgrade sooner or later anyway. saves us all the trouble when you post a new thread titled 'my tone sucks, recommend me a tube amp?'

LOL. okay okay
May i know how much do the basic tube amps cost?

hmmm, u can actually roughly source it online... and u can probably get a rough estimation there rite? try something like guitar centre or musicianfriend. then do ur conversions from there.

aight? but if i remember correctly, should be around the 1k region. more or less around there...

Cheapest tube amps probably still the Valve Jr or the Black Heart. Should go under 1k for combo or head + cab version.

anyway, theres really nothing wrong with using a V for pretty much any music.. Ginette from Astreal uses one for her music (indie). Although she swears it made in some part of indon. Still sounds gd i think. I'm planning to get a edwards Alexi for my band too. (indie/experimental/alternative) Y bother too much... its the feel man!!!

yeayea ok its just stereotype ya know. Vs Xplorers sharp2 guitars = metal. hahah.

basic tube amps?

epiphone valve junior
blackheart little giant
orange tiny terror

hmm they cost 500-700 that range. but hey if u dont know the difference, i'd suggest u stick to solid state AKA non-tube amps, just like me. well thats just me.

hi there TS.i used to use a flying V.its still here with me.the flying V was the 2nd guitar that i've owned and it was awesome.like what the others said,it's not as comfortable sitting down and you have to put it inbetween your legs if you really wanted to seat down.probably those with rubber paddings were the ones you saw in swee lee?the korina Vs?

about genre wise,i dont think that there's a limit to what this axe can do for you.just tweak whatever it is to your liking.i didn't change anything say pickups or whatever.all stock.

well you can have a listen to a simple example of what i mean just click the link on my signature.you can go from heavy,to light.it's all in your head.

since im here, might as well let it out.im selling one.hehe.

Haha thanks guys!
Now i think i've made up my mind. LOL.

Shall wait till i get better before i get a tube amp though.

btw dinky, i'm currently having major national exams, Can't be buying anything so soon yet. So if you haven't sold your guitar by mid nov, then tell me okay?
Thanks!
