hi.. i was thinking of buying an epiphone dot and was wondering if anyone has ever used one before and what they think of its playability.. sound.. etc.. and what kinds of music works best for this guitar.. thanks!

hi judy, i'm gonna give this Epi dot another audition before deciding between the Ibanez Artcore & itself... hopefully i'd have a review of it to help you get a good picture of things.

the Epi DOT lists for more than an average Ibanez Artcore guitar but that doesn't mean it's a better playing, better sounding guitar. the Artcore Ibanez on the other hand, has been given thumbs up by many due to its no-brainer value-for-money status + above average tones/ playability. there's about $300 price diff between the 2 so there's alot to scrutinize before one parts with cash. 8)

thanks man.. i wasnt familiar with the ibanez semi hollows till you mentioned it.. i shall go scour the net for more info on that too.. in the mean time.. hope to read your review soon!

does anyone know if sweelee will bring in this epi dot for you if you place an order? Is it possible? The last time I tried, they told me they didn't know when stock was coming in, and if I wanted to order I could, but I had to pay about $200 more. Can anyone help?

Heh...Deliberating between this and a tele..More inclined towards humbuckers so I get a diff sound from that produced by strats.

Was in Swee Lee Bras Basah yesterday and they have an Epiphone Dot (made in china) in Vintage Sunburst tone available. Hope that helps.

I am sure it was the Epi Dot. it's 3-4 guitars to the right of the Sheraton II. But then again, it's not in the color that you wanted.

hi subversion, about the epi dot, do you think a change of pickups would help improve the tone? As in remove the muddiness?

subversion.. so in your opinion which do you prefer.. the epiphone or the ibanzez.. price difference aside?

oh and thanks for the review!

i prefer the Ibanez because:

*better workmanship
*less emphasis on bass
*more manageable weight

however, the Ibanez sports small frets as oppossed to the Dot's medium frets but it's a matter of personal preference. also the Ibanez pickup selector flips diagonally, the Dot's adhere to the traditional vertical flipping. try both & go with your feel

on the Dot's humbucker: IMO swapping the default pickups might help but it won't be a drastic change. also, the Dot's emphasis is to replicate the 335 tone which is what the current humbuckers have to offer. if you wish for a brighter sounding Epi semi-acc, try the Casino (equipped with single coils) but do not expect a Dot-like price tag- blame it on a certain deceased Beatle... 8)
