i wanna learn guitar ..
but ,
i dont know a single thing abt it .
><
is it still alright for me to start with electric instead of acoustic ?

Learn electric, you want accoustic sound get peizo pickup or acoustic pedal, you want \m/ get distortion, you want rock and roll get over driv. So many things you can do with electric.

piezo or acoustic pedal can't get you the true acoustic sound. ts, it really depends on what music you wanna play. strum and sing = acoustic. music with distortion = electric.

TS: we don't know what you want to play. please advice us on that. i hope it doesn't go "i don't know, i just wanna play guitar".

At least tell us the song u wanna play.

oh ,
songs that i wanna play are mostly from those taiwan idol dramas show .
anyone noe of ko3anguo / x-family etc ,
the songs ,
i think its kinda diff .
i will take a long time to learn . lols

if you want a guitar that you can bring out and play during bbqs and small gatherings, simple sing and strum, those sweet simple love songs and etc, it's acoustic.

if you are going for mayday, jam xiao jing teng, rocker heavy metal type of song, where you'll either jam in your room yourself or have to find a band to play together, then it's electric.

personally i would recommend an acoustic to start with, no need for amps, pedals, less technical stuffs on pick-ups, floyd rose, tune-o-matics, tremolos and etc... no need electricity, no need to plug, just play...

Learn from the God.

Eric Clapton's first guitar was acoustic.

But is was electric guitar that made him famous.

TS: we know that you don't know about guitars. but at least know what you want to play. your idols, do they play acoustic or electric?

I beg to differ mate. I believe it depends on what kind of music TS wants to play. Anyways, he can learn some basic chords if he's on electric too.

acoustic is the root. You can play good rock songs on acoustic too. And when you learn the basic already and decided to go pro, go for a electric.

I started with Electric and used to had problem playing a acoustic as the string is so much harder. So just my 2 cent mate =)

so get a acoustic and start learning some simple song.

What makes you say acoustic is the root? You say people can play good rock songs on acoustic while I can say people can play good acoustic songs on an electric.

So the issue here is: STRING TENSION, no? If that's it, I have to agree. Playing acoustic trained me well.

Acoustic has higher action, chunkier neck, jumbo frets that is painful to slide, and thick steel strings that is difficult to bend, bulkier body too.

Generally electric guitar is easier to play....

But they are all good :)

Hmm. I think it's a matter of getting used. Like some acoustic players can't get used to electrics? yeah. And i disagree about the harder to slide part. Personally i find it is about the same as a electric... :D But yes, the rest, you are right. On the plus side, they are lighter than most electrics and do not require an amp. They're also easier to maintain (from personal experience).

I suggest that you take the economical approach. Go with a cheap and good acoustic guitar. Learn your chords and play some simple songs or a song that you really like (hopefully it would be easy). From there, you slowly improve.
